Night Sky Sound is a New York-based company providing the best in music production for records, original composition and scoring for film and television, as well as multi-media sound design. Our producers believe in creating the very best musical product possible - whether it's a record project, a dance remix, a film soundtrack, or a CD-ROM effects track, the diversity of our musical knowledge, as well as having the right equipment and facility allow us to deliver projects of unparalleled quality. Our team consists of musicians, writers, producers, and engineers with credits, and backgrounds spanning the industry. Our company is also involved with the research and development of music technology products for major manufacturers. We develop soundware, and production demos used throughout the industry. Our private studio was created with three things in mind: Assemble some of the most incredible gear, both new and vintage, available in the industry. Maintain signal flow integrity to the highest standards. And finally, create a comfortable and pleasing atmosphere (or stellarsphere) to work in.

Being a soundware developer enables us to create an ever-growing library of the most dynamic, cutting edge sounds available. CD-ROM libraries enable us to further expand our sonic palette. Our impressive array of vintage analog synths are fully functional, as well as fully compatible with today's MIDI specification. We are always searching for new additions to our vintage collection, and customizing the ones we have. From the most realistic orchestral instruments, the biggest chest pounding drums, the newest most intricate synth textures, to the warm phat sound of yesterday's vintage monoliths. Night Sky Productions remains one of New York's most diverse and complete recording, and electronic music setups.

ABOUT THE OWNER, STEVE DONATO

Steve studied under acclaimed jazz pianist Franco Richmond, and legendary pianist and Maestro Michael Thomas Privitello, protégé to Arturo Toscanini.

At Berklee College of Music. Steve took on a dual major of Music Production & Engineering, along with Music Synthesis, and was also recognized as one of the finest keyboard players at Berklee.

After graduating Berklee, Steve moved to New York City, and began touring with artists such as Color Me Badd (with Paula Abdul), The Cover Girls, and others in the NY dance genre. In 1993, Steve founded Night Sky Productions. His credits include everything from corporate campaigns and industrials, to award winning video scores, film and television scores and trailers, to chart-topping remixes and recording projects. Steve is also collaborating with some of the best songwriters in New York for established, as well as upcoming artists.

As one of the top voicing programmers in the industry, Steve’s sounds and sequences are found in products such as the venerable Kurzweil K2000/2500/2600 series synthesizers. He has done sound design and programming for some of the top-selling CD-ROMS available from Kurzweil. Other programmed sound credits include Korg’s Triton LE, Triton Studio,various expansion boards and the 2002 TEC Award Nominee – KARMA. Having done beta test work for Lexicon, and t.c. electronic, Steve is currently designing sounds for and beta testing Kurzweil’s state-of-the-art KSP-8 Studio Processor. He is available as a consultant for studio design, and specializes in critiquing and supplying music gear – both new and vintage.
